i've been taking photos since i was a kid. some of my earliest and favourite memories are of setting up my star trek action figures in exciting poses and snapping them with my dad's polaroid sx70 - a camera i've recently re-aquired from dear departed dad. over the years i've used a number of cameras and lenses, film and digital. i've love them all (well, mostly) for different reasons. cameras are neat. so is developing pictures, whether in trays full of stinky chemicals or on glowing screens full of radiation. it's still like magic to me.

i post a photo or more every day, usually within a few days of taking them. sometimes i post old favourites or recently discovered pics from the past. my motivation for maintaining this site is to get better at photography by making the commitment to taking more pictures and learning by looking back at the choices i've made. i'm hoping to keep this up for a very long time.

those interested in buying prints, please feel free to contact me: matt at thenarrative.net. it's not my intention to have a commercial site really, but if an image grabs you so much you'd like it on your wall i'd be honoured to oblige. with a few exceptions, all the images are suitable for printing uo to around 15x22, some up to 20x30. i print both traditionally and digital so either option is a possibility. lately i've been really happy with black and white piezography (inkjet) prints, and also colour inkjet on cotton rag.

i'm a web designer and (lately) tv guy by trade, and if you're interested you can see a little more about that at my chronically unfinished business site, here.

i live in toronto, so most of what's here was shot there.

thanks for visiting!
